This simple girder structure crosses Mosquito Creek near Neola, Iowa.
Built in 1907, the bridge consists of three through girder spans, sitting on concrete substructures. The spans were strengthened for heavier power in 1939, and the foundations were underpinned with concrete piles at that time.
While many bridges over Mosquito Creek were rebuilt between the 1920s and 1940s, this structure still retains the original configuration.
The main span is 80 feet, while the approaches are 50 feet. It appears the substructures were rebuilt in 1990, likely due to poor soil conditions.
The bridge can be accessed from Whippoorwill Road. The author has ranked the bridge as being locally significant, due to the common design.
